Surah Al-Maarijسورة المعارج

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴿١﴾

70:1 A challenger asked for a punishment bound to come

لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ ﴿٢﴾

70:2 upon the disbelievers, which none can avert

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ ﴿٣﴾

70:3 from Allah, Lord of the pathways of ascent

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ﴿٤﴾

70:4 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him on a Day the length of which is fifty thousand years

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا ﴿٥﴾

70:5 So be patient [O Prophet] with beautiful patience

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا ﴿٦﴾

70:6 Indeed, they see this [punishment] far off

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا ﴿٧﴾

70:7 but We see it to be close at hand

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ ﴿٨﴾

70:8 On the Day when the sky will be like molten brass

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ﴿٩﴾

70:9 and the mountains will be like dyed wool

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ﴿١٠﴾

70:10 and no close friend will ask about another

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ ﴿١١﴾

70:11 even though they will see one another. The wicked will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by offering his children

وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ ﴿١٢﴾

70:12 and his wife and his brother

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ ﴿١٣﴾

70:13 and his kindred who stood by him

وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ ﴿١٤﴾

70:14 and everyone on earth, just to save himself

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ ﴿١٥﴾

70:15 By no means! It is a raging Flame

نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ ﴿١٦﴾

70:16 that will strip off the scalps

تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ﴿١٧﴾

70:17 It will call everyone who turned their backs and disobeyed

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ ﴿١٨﴾

70:18 and amassed and hoarded wealth

۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ﴿١٩﴾

70:19 Indeed, man was created impatient

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا ﴿٢٠﴾

70:20 when evil befalls him, he bewails

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا ﴿٢١﴾

70:21 but when good fortune comes his way, he becomes tight-fisted –

إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٢٢﴾

70:22 except those who pray

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

70:23 who are steadfast in their prayers

وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ ﴿٢٤﴾

70:24 and who give a due share of their wealth

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ ﴿٢٥﴾

70:25 to the beggar and the dispossessed

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿٢٦﴾

70:26 and who firmly believe in the Day of Judgment

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ ﴿٢٧﴾

70:27 and those who fear the punishment of their Lord –

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ ﴿٢٨﴾

70:28 for none can feel secure from their Lord’s punishment –

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ ﴿٢٩﴾

70:29 and those who guard their private parts

إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ ﴿٣٠﴾

70:30 except from their wives or bondwomen whom they own, for then they are not to be blamed

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ ﴿٣١﴾

70:31 But whoever seeks beyond that, it is they who are the transgressors

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

70:32 and those who fulfill their trusts and pledges

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ ﴿٣٣﴾

70:33 and who are upright in their testimonies

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

70:34 and who take due care of their prayers

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

70:35 they will be honored in gardens

فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾

70:36 What is the matter with the disbelievers that they are rushing towards you [O Prophet]

عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

70:37 from the right and from the left, in crowds

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ ﴿٣٨﴾

70:38 Does everyone of them aspire to enter a garden of bliss

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٩﴾

70:39 By no means! We have created them from what they know

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ﴿٤٠﴾

70:40 I swear by the Lord of the sunrises and sunsets that We are surely Capable

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ﴿٤١﴾

70:41 to replace them with others better than them, and none can escape Our decree

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ ﴿٤٢﴾

70:42 So leave them to engage in their falsehood and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾

70:43 the Day when they will rush out of their graves as if they are racing towards a goal

خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ ﴿٤٤﴾

70:44 with their eyes downcast and overwhelmed with disgrace. That is the Day that they were promised
