Surah Ash-Shamsسورة الشمس

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ﴿١﴾

91:1 By the sun and its brightness

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ﴿٢﴾

91:2 and by the moon as it follows it

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ﴿٣﴾

91:3 and by the day as it displays it

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا ﴿٤﴾

91:4 and by the night as it covers it

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ﴿٥﴾

91:5 and by the sky and how He made it

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ﴿٦﴾

91:6 and by the earth and how He spread it

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا ﴿٧﴾

91:7 and by the soul and how He fashioned it

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا ﴿٨﴾

91:8 then inspired it [to know] its wickedness and righteousness

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا ﴿٩﴾

91:9 Indeed, he who purifies his soul will attain success

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا ﴿١٠﴾

91:10 and he who corrupts it will be doomed

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ ﴿١١﴾

91:11 Thamūd rejected [the messenger] because of their transgression

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا ﴿١٢﴾

91:12 when the most wretched among them rose [to kill the camel]

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا ﴿١٣﴾

91:13 Although the messenger of Allah warned them, “Hands off the she-camel of Allah and her drink!”

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا ﴿١٤﴾

91:14 Yet they rejected him and hamstrung her. So their Lord destroyed them for their sin and leveled them to the ground

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا ﴿١٥﴾

91:15 And He has no fear of the consequences thereof
